The other is that my mother was saying critical things about her body and buying into the fad diet of the month. Except I look back on pictures as an adult and with the exception of a few years right around the start of puberty, I wasn’t actually overweight. I don’t think my mother was ever actually overweight. But my goodness, what we put ourselves through emotionally and physically to be closer to the ideal instead of just being our healthy selves.
